Billy Joel is among the most popular musicians out there. A few years ago I came across arguably his magnum opus Piano Man, and after listening to it I found it hard to imagine that music couldn’t be objectively beautiful. Maybe that’s taking too long a leap, but I can’t help it!

But that’s just a digression.

I had some keyboard lessons back in elementary school and as a part of it had a couple of small performances too, and it seemed like a good direction in terms of developing a long-term hobby. Alas, I never took it up later and soon it faded away, being gradually replaced by other things. However, recently, something tipped me over and now I’m back in a mood in which I really want to learn how to play the piano (or as a compromise, its electronic counterpart) properly. Maybe it’s because of the pandemic, maybe it’s boredom, maybe it’s something else - but I feel an uncontrollable urge to learn how to play it, and perhaps a few months later I’ll have an update on my progress, if any.

What’s the point of posting this on a publicly accessible website rather than keeping it to myself? It’s a part of a personal experiment on public scrutiny, in which I want to test the hypothesis that something sticks as a result of having it announced publicly, among some research/opinions that may or may not agree with the hypothesis. In either case, a few months on, I’ll get to know if I should ever touch a piano/keyboard again!
